SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s tennis team (7-10) couldn’t overcome early doubles deficit as Northwood (MI) University posted a 7-2 victory over the Lions, Monday evening at the SLU Tennis Center. After falling behind 2-1 in doubles play, the Lions dropped five of six singles matches to extend their losing streak to two matches.

The combo of Jeannette McDonald and Shaena Keefe outlasted the Northwood pair of Darina and Ella in a grueling 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. The seesaw battle eventually landed back on the side of the Green and Gold as Keefe and McDonald dropped the final two points of the match across the net for the win.

The emotional win at doubles wasn’t enough though as Northwood took all but one match in singles play. The lone Lion victory came at the No. 3 spot as McDonald once proved her dominance over an opponent shutting Hvette out in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The Lions look to regain their winning touch Tuesday, March 24 as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on conference foe Florida Southern in SSC action. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
