SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s tennis team (8-14) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in doubles action. But, five losses in singles play sent Saint Leo to its third-straight loss as No. 38 Palm Beach Atlantic (12-8) solidified a 6-3 victory Saturday afternoon from the SLU Tennis Center.

After dropping the first match in doubles action, Shaena Keefe and Jeannette McDonald evened the contest at one apiece with a thrilling 9-8 victory. The pair never quit as they gutted out a 7-5 tiebreaker win to close out the one-point victory. Gina Schifano and Taylor Cleaves gave the Lions all the momentum over the nationally ranked Sailfish as the duo used an impressive effort o win 8-1.

Unfortunately, singles did not go the way Saint Leo planned as PBA took the first three matches and five of six total for the win. The lone victory came at the No. 4 singles spot when Schifano continued her tremendous play taking the first set over Pamela Artigas 6-1. Artigas fought back in the second set but Schifano closed the door on her opponent with a 7-5 win.

The Lions get a break from action, as they get ready to take on their final regular season opponent of the season, Eckerd College. The contest with the Tritons is set for Thursday, April 9 with first serve coming at 3:00 pm from the SLU Tennis Center.
