SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s tennis team skated past St. Thomas University Thursday evening winning the match by the score of 8-1 at the SLU Tennis Center.

The Green and Gold immediately jumped all over the Bobcats, sweeping through doubles action. Lina Benkirane and Lara King solidified an 8-4 victory in No. 1 doubles, while Jeanette McDonald and Shaena Keefe overmatched Ramirez and Castillo in No. 2 doubles. On the far court, Gina Schifano and Taylor Cleaves continued their outstanding play in doubles action as they were credited with an 8-1 win over Pfeffer and Montilla in No. 3 doubles.

The Lions continued their success in singles play as Benkirane outpaced Gil 6-1, 6-4, while both Keefe and McDonald posted straight set victories over their opponents. Schifano’s opponent retired before the match due to injury, but with the match already decided in favor of the Lions. Cleaves then used the No. 5 singles position to take down Montilla, 6-0, 6-1.

The Lions will charge the court again Friday, March 6 as they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. to take on the Eckerd College Tritons in SSC action. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm
