Saint Leo, Fla. (March 25, 2008) – The No. 29 Saint Leo women’s tennis team (6-6, 1-4 SSC) dropped their match 7-2 to the No. 16 Florida Southern College Moccasins (9-3, 2-2 SSC) at the SLU Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.

The Mocs swept the doubles portion of the day, as the Lions No. 1 doubles duo of Lina Benkirane (So., Casablanca, Morocco) and Asmaa Tazi (Jr., Casablanca, Morocco) fell to the Mocs No. 1 pair of Senka Softic and Erin Conroy 8-4. The Mocs No. 2 doubles team of Ashley Hungerford and Karolina Stochlova picked up their second point of play defeating Shaena Keefe (So., Spring Hill, Fla.) and Taylor Cleaves (So., Norwell, Mass.) 8-4. The Mocs picked up their final point of doubles as Veronika Kovacikova and Nora Baertschi rallied past the Saint Leo tandem of Veronica Queen (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) and Gina Schifano (So., Tampa, Fla.) 8-6 .

Tazi and Queen picked up the lone points for Saint Leo on the afternoon. Tazi made quick work of Hungerford winning 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles spot while Queen defeated Mona Sendesni in the No. 4 singles spot 6-3, 6-2. Benkirane dropped her match to Softic 6-3, 6-1 in the No.1 spot and Keefe fell to Conroy 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 position. Both Schifano and Cleaves dropped their matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, as Schifano fell 6-2, 6-4 and Cleaves was defeated 6-3, 6-0.
