Boca Raton, Fla. (March 2, 2008) – The No. 40 Saint Leo women’s tennis (3-5, 1-3 SSC) dropped their fourth conference match of the season to Lynn University Fighting Knights (10-1, 4-0 SSC) Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton by the score of 7-2.

The Lions started the afternoon by dropping two of three matches in doubles competition. The Knights pair of Victoria Weltz and Alexandra Schunk rolled past the Lions duo of Lina Benkirane (So., Casablanca, Morocco) and Asmaa Tazi (Jr., Casablanca, Morocco) 8-1. The result was the same in the No. 2 position as the Lynn team of Eleonora Ionozzi and Alisson Siaci defeated the Lions’ pair of Taylor Cleaves (So., Norwell, Mass.) and Shaena Keefe (So., Spring Hill, Fla.) 8-1. The Lions clawed back into the match, as Veronica Queen (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) and Gina Schifano (So., Tampa, Fla.) pulled out a victory in the No. 3 doubles position 8-4 beating Klibanoff-Dombrowski and Christine Johnstone.

The Lions failed to make a charge in singles competition losing five of six matches. Schunk triumphed over Benkirane 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 position. Magdalena Ekert prevailed over Tazi 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 position. Siaci subdued the Lions Keefe 6-4, 6-0 in two-sets. In the No. 4 position, Ionozzi foiled Saint Leo’s Queen attempt at victory winning 6-1, 6-2. The Lions struck in the No. 5 position, as Schifano mastered Johnstone 6-2, 7-5. The Lions didn’t carry the momentum into the final match, as Cleaves dropped a hard fought match to Klibanoff-Dombrowski 7-5, 6-4.
