Lakeland, Fla. (April 18, 2008) - The No. 29 Saint Leo University women's tennis team (13-9) came from behind to defeat Florida Tech (15-14) by a score of 5-3 on Friday afternoon at the 2008 SSC Tennis Championships in Lakeland, Fla.  The No. 6 seed Lions will advance to play in the fifth-place match versus #5 seed Florida Southern on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Saint Leo found itself in an early hole following doubles play, as Tech won two out of three to take an early 2-1 lead.  The SLU duo of Veronica Queen (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) and Gina Schifano (So., Tampa, Fla.) earned the Lions' only point of doubles competition with an 8-0 win in the number three match.  The number two combination of Shaena Keefe (So., Spring Hill, Fla.) and Taylor Cleaves (So., Norwell, Mass.) was narrowly edged 9-7 while Lina Benkirane (So., Casablanca, Morocco) and Asmaa Tazi (Jr., Casablanca, Morocco) fell 8-6 in the number one match.

The Lions roared back in singles play, as they quickly took a 4-3 lead in the match with wins by Queen, Schifano and Cleaves in the four, five and six spots.  Tazi clinched the win for Saint Leo in the number two singles match, as she came from a set down to win 1-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

Saint Leo lost to Florida Southern twice in the regular season with both matches finishing 7-2 in favor of the Mocs.
