Tuhtasinova and Shaver joining swimming contingent at NCAAs

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Sophomore Maftuna Tuhtasinova and freshman Mattie Shaver have been added to the list of Saint Leo women's swimmers headed to the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships next week in Birmingham, Ala.

Both swimmers will round out relay teams for the Saint Leo in the championship. The pair join senior Nicole Weber, junior Natalia Garriock, and freshman Annie Lindstrom who earned invitations to the NCAA meet in individual events.

"Maftuna will compete for us in the medley relay events, and also gives us an option in the freestyle relays as well," said Paul Mangen, Saint Leo's head men's and women's swim coach. "Mattie is a sprint freestyle specialist and will be an option for the freestyle relays. Both are very hard workers, have been consistent throughout the year, and have been among the top performers in those groups, and each will benefit from being part of the competition at a national championship level. Their participation will directly impact our ability to move up in the standings at the NCAA championship."

Competition in the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championship begins on Tuesday, March 7, at the Birmingham Crossplex Natatorium, and concludes on Saturday, March 11.
