Women’s swimming posts wins over Lynn, Florida Tech

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saint Leo women's swimming took first place in 10 out of 16 events to post a pair of wins over Florida Tech and Lynn, in a double dual meet held Friday afternoon at Lynn's McCusker Pool Complex.

The Lions posted a 149.00 – 113.00 win over the host Fighting Knights, and notched a 157.00 – 101.00 victory over Panthers.

Saint Leo took first place in two relay events: the 200 Medley Relay, where Maftuna Tuhtasinova, Nicole Weber, Natalia Garriock, and Annie Lindstrom posted a time of 1:46.27; and the 400 Free Relay, with Carylyn Waite, Tuhtasinova, Garriock, and Lindstrom clocked a time of 3:31.96.

Senior Nicole Weber recorded three individual first-place finishes for the Lions. She won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.29, and touched the wall in 2:17.73 in the 200 Breaststroke to finish first in that event as well with a strong NCAA "B" cut time. Finally, she was first in the 200 Individual Medley after posting a time of 2:09.09.

Junior Natalia Garriock had a pair of first place finishes, in the 100 Freestyle (52.65) and the 100 Butterfly (57.19).

Freshman Annie Lindstrom captured the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.04. Lindstrom also touched the wall second in the 100 Butterfly (57.27).

Sophomore Maftuna Tuhtasinova won the 200 Backstroke, touching the wall in 2:07.03. She also grabbed second place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 58.76.

Junior Carylyn Waite won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:57.39, and was also second in the 500 Freestyle (5:21.54).

Head Coach Paul Mangen: "I was happy with how our women raced as a team, meaning their relays were fantastic across the board.  Both our women's A relays were incredibly close to NCAA B cuts, and to do that in our first meet sets a great tone for the season, and gives us some great confidence in where we can be as a team this season."

The Lions are back in the pool on Friday, Oct. 28, when they travel to Winter Park, Fla., to face Rollins College. Start time for the dual meet will be 3:00 p.m.
