Both men's and women's swim teams receive CSCAA Scholar All-America Selections
NORFOLK, Va. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced the 2014 Spring CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams supported by Nike Swim. The Saint Leo Men's and Women's Swim teams were both honored with the award.
"Having both our Men's and Women's programs in the top 10 is something I'm proud of," said head men's and women's swim coach Paul Mangen. "It shows that the University, department, and program are on the same page with developing well rounded individuals. It also shows we are selecting the right people, and facilitating appropriately within the Swimming programs."
Finishing the year with a spring GPA of 3.54, the women's swimming program led the way for the honorees, ranking 8th in the nation and second in the Sunshine State Conference behind second-place Lynn.
The men's program finished the spring semester with a 3.27 GPA, which also ranks 8th in the nation. The Lions were and a close second in the Sunshine State Conference, behind Nova Southeastern, who earned just a 3.28 to narrowly beat out the Green and Gold.
Under head coach Paul Mangen's guidance, the men's and women's programs placed a total of 23 individuals on the Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll, which honors student-athletes who post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on the 4.0 scale.
The Team Scholar All American Award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and again in the spring to recognize teams achieving a 3.0 in the semester coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
