Assis and Weber Claim Top Titles on Day 3 of SSC Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swim teams took home two more individual first place finishes, and posted a third place relay time to conclude day three of the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championships.

Matheus Assis earned his second SSC Champion title of the meet, setting a new SSC Meet and Overall Conference record in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 48.07.  The João Pessoa, Paraiba , Brazil native broke his previous overall SSC record by 31 seconds, and blew his previous SSC Championship meet record of 48.73 out of the water.

Joining Assis on the winner's podium was Nicole Weber, who took home her first medal of the week in the 100 Yard Breastroke.  Weber touched with a time of 1:03.18, just one second off of the record time of 1:02.39 set earlier in the day by Tyne Potgieter of Lynn in the preliminary rounds.

The Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Rhet Rheinlander, Jan Dahrendorff, Assis, and Gabe Keown picked up a third place finish, earning a time of 1:32.05 to grab the Lions' last piece of hardware for the evening.

Overall, the Lions picked up 197 points throughout their day three efforts.  In the Women's 200 Medley Relay, the team of Chantal Bouthillier, Weber, Alyssa Black, and Paula Carvajal finished with a time of 1:49.16, good for sixth place.  The squad of Bianca Muniz, Rachel Cunio, Chloe Pellican, and Grace Lederer finished fourth in the B Finals, and 12th overall, touching with a time of 1:54.04.

In the Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay B Finals, the crew of Jackson Hall, Jose De Jesus, Michael Marino, and Milton Alberto-Requejo finished in 1:38.56, for 13th place.

The Women's 400 Yard IM saw three Lions finish back-to-back in the B Finals.  Bouthillier led the pack with a time of 4:40.38, good for ninth overall, while Chloe Pellican and Kaitlyn Hite touched in 4:41.76 and 4:42.21, respectively, for 10th and 11th.  Justin Wulff swam the Men's 400 Yard IM, earning a time of 4:14.19, for 16th overall.

Alyssa Black touched the wall with a time of 58.82 in the Women's 100 Yard Butterfly, earning an 11th place finish, while in the Men's 100 Yard Fly, Keown led the pack in the B Finals, hitting the wall in 49.84, for ninth place overall.

In the Men's 200 Yard Free, Patrick Ceddia earned a time of 1:51.14, taking home eighth place, while Dillon Kasson, and Alberto-Requejo picked up 14th and 16th, respectively, with marks of 1:43.83 and 1:54.18.

Muniz led the B Finals group in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, hitting the wall in 1:08.88 and earning ninth overall.  Cunio took home 12th with a time of 1:09.87, while Carvajal finished in 1:10.91 for 14th place.  Dahrendorff picked up 15th in the Men's 100 Yard Breaststroke, finishing in 59.07.

Closing out the evening was Rheinlander in the Men's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 51.37, good for ninth overall, and top in the B Final heat.
