Women’s Swimming Readies for SSC Championships with 172-90 Win over Rollins

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's swim team decided to rewrite some records as the Lions sent off their seniors in a 172-90 domination of Rollins in SSC action from the Bowman Pool deck.

After honoring four outgoing women's seniors: Paula Carvajal, Chloe Pellican, Kristy Marques and Bianca Muniz the Lions went to work, with their A relay team of Muniz, Carvajal, Rachael Cunio and Kaitlyn Hite winning the 200 IM Relay by over a full second.

The opening victory propelled the Saint Leo ladies to a solid victory as the Lions claimed 12 victories in 16 events, but it was the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Breaststroke where newcomer Nicole Weber etched her name in the Saint Leo record books.   She finished the 100 Breaststroke at 1:04.25, besting the old time by almost a full second.  In the 200 Breaststroke she touched with a time of 2:15.60, beating the old record by five seconds and missing an NCAA 'A' cut by a mere tenth of a second.

In additional to the new times on the big board at the Bowman Pool, the Lions saw Stephanie Martinez pick up victories in the 1000 Free, 200 Free and 500 Free while Weber added a 200 IM victory to her impressive slate of wins on the day.

Carvajal, in the final home meet of her career, claimed twin wins on the day, picking up the top spot in the 50 Free and in the next event, the 100 Free.  Chantal Bouthillier added to her team's impressive day with a win in the 200 Fly, besting her competition by almost three seconds, while Alyssa Black claimed a narrow triumph in the 100 Fly.

The Lions closed out the day with a 200 Free Relay win from the Lions' A relay team of Martinez, Marques along with Katie Sanacore and Lindsay Albanese who claimed a two second win over their opponents.

In total, it was a solid outing for the Lions as the tune up for the Conference Championships is now fully underway.

The Lions will have nearly a month to prepare for the Sunshine State Conference Championship which will kick off on Feb. 19 in Orlando at the YMCA Aquatic Center.
