Women’s Swimming Unable to Topple No. 11 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women's swim team was unable to upset No. 11 Tampa on Saturday morning at the University of Tampa Aquatic Center.

Stephanie Martinez and Paula Carvajal led the way for the Green and Gold, collecting a pair of first place finishes apiece. 

Martinez picked up her first top time in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event, touching with a time of 10:37.08, five seconds ahead of her closest competition.  She went on to claim second in the 200 Yard Free with a time of 2:00.42 before earning the top time in the 500 Yard Freestyle event, touching with a time of 5:14.31.

Carvajal picked up first place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, hitting the wall with a time of 1:11.73, and took home the top slot in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, earning a total time of 2:33.87.

Chantal Bouthillier and Chloe Pellican finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 Yard Butterfly, completing the event in 2:15.64, and 2:17.97.  Bouthillier continued her success in the 200 Yard IM, finishing in 2:17.81, good for second on the day.

In the 100 Yard Free, Bianca Muniz took home third place with a time of 55:51.

The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Bouthillier, Carvajal, Alyssa Black, and Muniz opened the meet with a third place finish, logging combined time of 1:56.17.  To close out the day, the combination of Carvajal, Muniz, Martinez, and Rachel Cunio took home second in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:45.35.

The Lions return to the pool deck on Saturday, December 14, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, to participate in the four-day Nova Southeastern Invitational.
