Martinez Sets New Record as Women’s Swimming Falls in Double Dual Meet

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Stephanie Martinez started her Saint Leo career in record-setting fashion, but the Lions could not pull out the victory, dropping a double dual meet decision to Lynn and Florida Tech in season-opening action on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions fell to host Lynn by a slim 100-95 final while Saint Leo was downed by Florida Tech by a 109-96 final.

Martinez set a new program record in the 1,000 Free when she touched at a time of 10:41.01, besting the old mark of 10:50.22 set by Kaitlyn Hite less than a year ago.  Martinez's finish was just behind a Lynn swimmer as she touched in second place.

Claiming a victory for the Lions was senior Chloe Pellican.  Pellican finished atop the standings in the 100 Fly when she touched with a time of 1:01.23, nearly half a second faster than her opponents.

The Lions now look toward their home opener when they welcome Nova Southeastern into the Bowman Aquatic Center next weekend.  The Lions and Sharks will get things started at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
