Women’s Swimming Sweeps Lynn, Florida Tech in Season-Opener
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Backed by five event victories, the Saint Leo women's swimming team opened its 2012-13 campaign with a strong effort against Florida Tech and Lynn in Saturday afternoon's season-opening tri-meet from the Saint Leo Aquatics Center.S
The Lions earned a 71-24 victory over Florida Tech, and a 68-27 victory over conference newcomer, Lynn.
Saint Leo capped their afternoon by posting wins in the 50 Free, 100 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle Relay.After beginning the event with a200 Freestyle Relay win, junior Bianca Muniz, as well as Freshmen Paula Carvajal and Chantal Bouthillier, each posted wins on the afternoon session with the 400 Freestyle Relay bookending the afternoon.
Taking the 100 Butterfly, Carvajal registered a time of 1:101.47 in the win. She also collected a runner-up spot in the 200 IM at 2:15.86.
Just before the first break, Muniz tallied another Lions' win as she registered a time of 25.81 in the 50 Freestyle, before captaining a 400 Freestyle victory.
The Lions will resume action Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to challenge Nova Southeastern. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m. from the NSU Aquatic Center.
