Kabangu lifts women's soccer over Barry in 2OT

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Where there's a will, there's a way and Arielle Kabangu gave the Lions just that Saturday night in the Saint Leo women's soccer teams 2-1 double-overtime win over Barry at University Soccer field. Kabangu scored two goals to lift the Lions over the Buccaneers for their sixth straight victory of the season.

Arielle Kabangu, who scored her ninth and tenth goals of the season, put one in the back of the net in the 79th minute to tie the game forcing overtime. Kabangu received a pass from Katie Waddell in the 104th minute and buried it into the net to win the game for Saint Leo.

Molly Sharpe scored the first goal of the game as the Lions conceded a goal in the first 18 minutes of the game.

104'| Katie Waddell gained possession about 30-35 yards out from the goal and dribbled towards the goal where she found a slicing Kabangu, who then took a few touches and drilled it into the net for the game-winning goal. | SLU 2-1 |

Points to Note

  • Saint Leo moves to 6-1-0, 4-0-0 SSC.
  • The Lions outshot the Buccaneers 24-11 and led the foul count 12-2.
  • Kabangu's 10 goals through seven games matches her 2015 season total. 
  • Keeper Julia Ortiz picked up her fifth win of the year in between the posts as she recorded three saves on four Barry shots-on-goal.
  • Saint Leo tallied 24 total shots with 11 on frame.
  • After trailing early in the game again, the Lions rallied late to pick up their sixth straight.
