Women's soccer beats Christian Brothers Sunday afternoon

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Three different players scored for Saint Leo women's soccer in their 3-1 victory over Christian Brothers University on Sunday, Sept. 11 at University Soccer Field. Arielle Kabangu, Rakeisha Sealey, and Selena Jaimes each scored for the Lions.

The Lions, who ripped off 21 shots Sunday afternoon, found the back of the net three times total, with one in the first half and two in the second half. Arielle Kabangu put the Lions up their opponent for the third consecutive game. Rakeisha Sealey and Selena Jaimes each found the back of the net for the first time this season. Natalie Melillo acted as the facilitator Sunday afternoon dishing out two assists on two of the Lions' three goals. 

Christian Brothers' Ashton White found a way to get one past freshman keeper Julia Ortiz in the second half to bring the game to 3-1.

How It Happened
| Kabangu put the Lions on top once again with a goal in the 11th minute after Natalie Melillo crossed one into the box where Alejandra Muro found Kabangu for the first goal of the game. | SLU 1-0 |
60'| Melillo found a way to get her second assist of the game by crossing the ball to Sealey who put the one-timer off the post and in for the Lions' second goal. | SLU 2-0 |
62'| Jaimes took a free kick from five-yards over the midfield line and placed the ball over the keeper for Saint Leo's third goal. The Buccaneers keeper got a hand on the ball but not enough as the ball found the top of the goal. | SLU 3-0 |
69'|  Avoiding the shutout, Ashton White took a stab at the goal and put the ball on the far post and driving one past the diving Julia Ortiz.

  • Saint Leo moves to 2-1-0 after defeating Christian Brothers 3-1 Sunday afternoon.

  • Arielle Kabangu found the back of the net for her third goal of the season in the first half to put the Lions up 1-0 early in the game.  
  • Rakeisha Sealey picked up her second career goal in the Green and Gold in the 60th minute.
  • Selena Jaimes scored her first goal of the season, and her sixth of her career in the 62nd minute.
  • Natalie Melillo picked up two assists Sunday to add to her season total, now standing at three total. Melillo recorded four shots, two on frame.
  • Julia Ortiz saw her first action of the season playing a total of 84:53 in goal for the Lions. Ortiz made five saves

For the Opponent – Christian Brothers

  • Ashton White scored the lone goal for the Buccaneers in the 69th minute to avoid the shutout. White found the back of the goal on her only shot of the afternoon.
  • Keeper Emily Wragg tallied eight saves in the 90 minutes of action Sunday.  

Saint Leo will host Eckerd at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to open up Sunshine State Conference play at University Soccer Field.
