College Showcase ID Camp and Academy Camp Available
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo University Head Women's Soccer Coach Ged O'Connor will be hosting various opportunities this upcoming summer for both youth and experienced players. The 2014 Summer Academy camp and the College Showcase Program will be held on the campus of Saint Leo University this coming summer. The week long non-residential camp will be open to all soccer players ages 5- 14 (boys and girls).
"The idea of the Academy Camp is to get away from the older, more traditional residential camps, and focus on introducing children to the game of soccer in a fun and safe environment," O'Connor said. "We want to develop the technical skills at as young an age as possible, and by getting to work with these players on our campus, we are in a great position to show how fun and exciting the game of soccer can be."
The campus of Saint Leo University is the ideal location to host such a program with all facilities – soccer field, cafeteria, swimming pool, in very close proximity. More details about the camp, as well as an online registration form, are available on the www.sluwsa.com website. The Academy camp will take place the week of June 16-19, with multiple options available. There is a full-day, as well as two half-day options, with before and after care available if needed.
The Showcase ID program, which will be held on Saturday, August 2, is designed to showcase potential college soccer players. Competing against other high school soccer players from around the country, the single day event will allow the player to participate and be evaluated by college coaches in a college environment. All games will be played on University Soccer Field, on University Campus.
In addition, at 2:00 p.m., participants will take part in a Q & A with the college coaches in attendance.
Topics to be covered include:
• Academic areas of focus
• When/how to start the process
• Playing time
• NCAA Clearinghouse/Eligibility
College coaches from throughout Florida are already confirmed in attendance so you will get the opportunity to play in front of NCAA Division I through NJCAA coaches.
"This is an ideal way for the coaches from around the state to get to evaluate AND communicate with potential players in the Q and A session. We have a fantastic facility here that I want to show off to students, but I also want players to enjoy the experience they will have. If they have fun, they will perform better."
The registration fee is $75 per participant, and space is limited to the first 100 players.
