KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Saint Leo women's soccer standouts Arielle Kabangu, Saffron Jordan and Genevieve Gignac have earned a spot on the 2013 Continental Tire/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II All-Region Team as it was announced by the organization on Wednesday morning. Kabangu and Jordan earned First Team honors while Gignac was named to the Second Team.
A freshman from Ottawa, Canada, Kabangu led the SSC in scoring with 22 goals and 49 points. Her 22 goals were the most among Division II, while her 49 points ranked her second in the nation. Kabangu averaged a conference-best 3.06 points per game and 1.38 goals per game during the regular season. She was also third in the SSC with five game-winning goals.
Joining her freshman counterpart, Jordan added another scoring threat for the Lions. In just 12 games, the freshman from Salford, England scored four goals and matched that with six assists. Registering 14 points, she's ranks seventh in the Sunshine State Conference in total assists and is also 90th nationally and finished the season with two game-winning goals.
Adding a Saint Leo name to the Second Team, Gignac makes the trio of freshman that represents the Lions on the All-Region Team. Scoring six goals and matching that with six assists, the newcomer from Ottawa, Canada was sixth in the conference in assists and 78th nationally as she helped lead a scoring effort that was third in the nation.
Earning First Team honors, Kabangu and Jordan are now eligible for All-America honors. The NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Teams are scheduled to be released on Friday, Dec. 6.
