ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Arielle Kabangu registered another hat trick and six different Lions registered goals as the Saint Leo women's soccer team handed the Eckerd College Tritons a 9-1 defeat in Sunshine State Conference action on Tuesday night.
Opening up scoring in the fifth minute with a penalty kick goal from Maria Siegrist-Gabas the Lions (10-5, 5-2 SSC) never looked back. Saint Leo saw Kabangu retake the nation's scoring lead behind three consecutive goals in the early parts of the second half. In addition, Saint Leo saw tallies from Saffron Jordan, Alicia Schuering, Genevieve Gignac and Katy McGee.
Eckerd (7-9, 1-6 SSC) saw a 40th minute goal from Abby Walter as the Tritons' lone tally of the contest.
Abby Evans managed the win in goal for the Lions as she made three saves and allowed the lone Eckerd tally.
With their postseason hopes receiving a big shot in the arm and Head Coach Ged O'Connor picking up another 10-win season, the Lions look to close out their regular season slate with a Senior Day contest against Rollins on Saturday. Kickoff against the Tars is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with a Senior Day ceremony to follow beforehand.
