Lions Storm Past Eckerd with 5-0 Regional Triumph
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The visiting Eckerd College Tritons did not have an answer for Arielle Kabangu as the freshman registered her second career hat trick en route to the Saint Leo women's soccer team's 5-0 win on Saturday night.
Kabangu, already making her presence known in the early part of this season, started the scoring when she slotted a pass into the net in the 48th minute and then closed out the game with back-to-back goals in the 77th and 87th minutes respectively.
Sandwiched in between the "Kabangu Show" were goals scored in the 54th minute from Genevieve Gignac, who picked up a Kabangu pass and slotted it home on a beautiful header, and a 61st minute strike from Ari Foreman.
Abby Evans posted a clean sheet as she had two saves and relied on a heavy Saint Leo defensive presence that only allowed the Tritons (5-2) to send three shots toward goal.
Morgan Crescent registered the loss in net for Eckerd as she managed 10 saves.
The Lions take to University Field in just four days when they welcome Nova Southeastern for a region contest. The Lions and Sharks will square off on Wednesday after with kick off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
