WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team could not withstand a second half barrage as the Lions dropped a South Region contest to Rollins College by a 7-2 final score.
Despite the final tally, the Lions played the Tars (5-2) very evenly in the opening stanza, answering a Rollins goal in the second minute with a tally of their own in the 24th. That goal came when Saint Leo freshman Arielle Kabangu broke free on the left side and beat the Rollins keeper to draw the score even.
An adjustment made by Rollins at half was not able to be matched by Saint Leo (3-3) and the host Tars were able to spin the scoreboard six times before the Lions answered with a Stephanie Marran header to wrap up scoring.
Mary Spring picked up the win in goal for Rollins, playing 80 minutes and snagging two saves with one goal allowed. Shelby Finch played the final 10 minutes in goal.
For the Lions, Abby Evans played the full 90 for Saint Leo tallied 11 saves.
Saint Leo returns home this weekend and will face Eckerd College in another region match. Kick off on Leukemia Awareness Night is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
