Lions Fall in Road Game to St. Thomas
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - After an exciting win over the Flagler Saints on Friday evening, the Lions fell in Sunday afternoon action to the St. Thomas University Bobcats but a 3-2 score.
After a brief lightning delay before the start of the game, the Lions put themselves on the board first, scoring in the 13th minute off a header goal from junior Ari Foreman. The assist came from Fabienne Schwenk, tallying her fourth of the season.
Three minutes before halftime, the Bobcats put themselves on the board with a penalty kick goal from Sara Mira. Seconds later, St. Thomas tied the game with a corner kick goal off the boot of Courtney Trujilla.
Heading into halftime with the game tied, the Lions looked to come out with their third win of the season, but St. Thomas would not accept defeat.
In the 70th minute, the Bobcats' Melony Poviones sent the ball into the back of the net to take a 3-2 lead. Despite the time remaining, the Lions were unable to answer back, and time expired with a Saint Leo loss.
The Lions will look to rebound on Wednesday, Sep. 18 when they travel to Florida Southern College for a regional bout. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
