ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Saint Leo University freshman Arielle Kabangu registered her first career hat trick as the Lions defeated host Flagler College 4-1 in women's soccer action on Friday night.
Kabangu scored the match's first goal just 2:31 into the contest when she gathered a loose ball at the top of the 20-yard box and chipped a shot over the Flagler keeper.
Twenty-six seconds later, a nice touch pass by Mari Siegrist-Gabas found an open Kabangu in the box and she drilled home her second goal of the game.
Nearly two minutes later, the Lions struck again. Alicia Schuering made a move on a Flagler defender and dribbled in for a one-on-one opportunity and sent the ball just inside the left post to give Saint Leo a commanding 3-0 lead.
That's how the score would stand through the first 45 minutes.
Megan Poth scored Flagler's lone goal as she collected a bounding ball off a block and blasted a shot home in the 69th minute.
Kabangu capped the scoring when she received a through ball from Schuring and knocked a shot in from 10 yards out to complete the hat trick.
Abby Evans recorded two saves for the Lions while Casey Merson tallied six saves for the Saints.
Saint Leo out-shot Flagler 14-7, but Flagler held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. The fouls were nearly even with Saints Leo collecting 14 and Flagler 11.
The Lions will travel to south Florida to face St. Thomas. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
