Women’s Soccer Forces Draw with No.17 Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team (2-5-1, 1-2-1 SSC) withstood 34 shots from the No.17-ranked Florida Tech Panthers (4-2-2), as they preserved a 0-0 double overtime tie, Saturday afternoon from Rick Stottler Field. The Sunshine State Conference game was the Lions second double overtime contest of the season.

Being outshot 34-4 on the afternoon, the Lions leaned on a strong defensive effort from their back four, in addition to a 10-save effort from goalkeeper Abby Evans.

The Panthers were consistent on the offensive end for the majority of the day, seeing the most of their chances come in the first half. That's also where Evans came up most clutch for the Green and Gold as she posted a game-high five saves over the first 45 minutes.

Evans (1-5-2) and the defense kept Florida Tech at bay in the second half as well, posting another three saves on 12 shots.  The trend continued into the both overtime sessions as one save was made in each OT period.

The Lions saw both of their scoring chances come in the opening stanza as Sam Buterbaugh and Mollie Kmita each had their shots-on-goal collected by Panthers' keeper Emma Ahlstrand (2-1-2).

Florida Tech registered 12 corner kick attempts compared to the Lions two, while both teams combined for 29 fouls.

The Lions will continue conference action on Wednesday, September 26, when they host the Eckerd College Tritons. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from University Soccer Field.
