Women’s Soccer Falls to Webber, 3-1
BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Saint Leo women's soccer team (1-1) dropped a 3-1, non-region decision to Webber International University, Monday afternoon from Lake Wales, Fla.
In the contest, Ari Foreman notched her second goal of the season, but three unanswered Warriors' goals in the second half put Saint Leo on the wrong end of the 3-1 outcome.
Foreman struck early for Saint Leo as her blast, off the feed from Rosie Kmita, put the Green and Gold up 1-0. Still, despite the early offensive production, Saint Leo could only collect two more shots on target over the next 39 minutes.
Three minutes out of the halftime break, Webber managed to knot the game one goal apiece. The tied match soon turned in favor of the Warriors as an Ashley Palmer header in the 55th eventually proved to be the difference.
The Lions attempted to find the equalizer late in the match, but only one of Saint Leo's four second half shots were on goal. A Warriors' corner kick connection wrapped-up the scoring for Webber in the 85th minute.
In goal, Jessica Griffith logged all 90 minutes of action in net for the Lions while collecting six saves.
Overall, Webber controlled the offensive pace as they outshot Saint Leo, 14-9. The Lions, on the other hand, managed five more corners, 8-3.
Up next, Saint Leo will head to Georgia for a two-match swing. Leading off the road trip will be a date with in-region foe Tusculum from Milledgeville, Ga. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
