Soesemann Earns NSCAA First Team All-South Region Honors
Junior Finished Season in Impressive Fashion
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's soccer player Pia Soesemann was rewarded for her 19-goal season as she was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) as a member of the All-South Region First Team it was announced over the weekend.
Also taking home the Sunshine State Conference's Player and Offensive Player of the Year awards, Soesemann was also the only Lion listed on the NSCAA's list.
A junior, Soesemann was one of the most prolific scorers in the nation. She ranked second in the league with 42 points and 19 goals. She tied for second with five game-winning goals and tied for 10th with four assists.
In the 2010 season, Soesemann also ranked among the top players in NCAA Division II in some offensive statistical categories. She ranked fifth with 2.63 points per game and third with 1.188 goals per game.
Academically, the junior is also a heavyweight in the classroom as she carries a 3.88 grade-point average in the dual fields of History and International Studies. A stellar student, Soesemann has appeared in the Saint Leo President's Club four-times, the Division II Athletic Directors Academic Achievement Award List, the Saint Leo Dean's List and a member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Although successful in the win-loss column (9-6-1), the 2010 season will be remembered as one where the Lions played to their potential too late in the season. Starting 4-5-1, the Lions won five-straight games to end the regular season, a win-streak that saw SLU outscore opponents 21-1. A loss to Florida Southern in the first round of the SSC Tournament sealed the Lions fate as the season ended without an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in five years. Despite the adversity, the Lions finished just once game away from the SSC title, claimed by Nova Southeastern.
