SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s soccer team received multiple individual accolades Monday, as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-Region team selected four Lions to the distinguished team, including a first team selection of Hannah Beard. In addition to Beard’s selection, the Lions had three others named to the All-Region team including third team selections of Francesca Williams, Pia Soesemann, and Chrissy Darwell.
Adding to Beard’s already stout individual accomplishment list, the prolific scorer was named to the all-region first team for the second consecutive season. The Liverpool, England native was the top scorer for the Lions finishing the season with 28 points (12 goals, 4 assists). She registered one hat-trick and one game-winning goal. She ranked in the top five of the conference in goals scored (T-3rd), points (3rd), and shots per game (4th) in helping Saint Leo to the highest scoring offense in the conference.
Beard also ranked 36th nationally in goals per game (0.75) and 36th in points per game (1.75).
Within the last month, Beard has been named to the Sunshine State All-Conference First Team, as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, and Daktronics All-South Region Second Team. With the first team selection, Beard is now eligible for NSCAA Academic All-America nominations which will be announced next week.
Joining Beard as an all-region member is Williams. The defender from Formby, England was selected to the third team and was consistently one of the top defenders on the field for Saint Leo. Williams, a third team selection in 2008 as well, concluded 2009 having played and started in all 16 games. She was also an offensive threat for the Lions having posted one goal and four assists for six points.
Darwell was also tabbed a third-team member as she concluded play as the fourth leading scorer on the team with three goals and team-high eight assists in 12 contests. The Cranston, R.I. native was an all-region third team selection in 2008.
Soesemann rounded out the third team nods for Saint Leo as she finshed the season as the second leading scorer with 20 points. She tied for second on the team in assists with four and goals with eight. She also tallied two game-winning goals in 16 contests. She finished conference play tied for ninth in the SSC in goals scored and fifth in goals per contest (0.50).
In total, four schools represented the all-region first team, including Rollins, West Florida, North Alabama, and Saint Leo.
