SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s soccer team (9-5-1) secured the No. 6 seed in the upcoming NCAA South Region Tournament, it was announced Monday evening by the NCAA selection committee. In the first round of the tournament, the Lions will be matched up with a familiar foe when they take on the Florida Tech Panthers on Thursday, November 12th from Winter Park, Fla. on the campus of Rollins College. Kickoff for the single elimination event is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Lions will entertain the Panthers in the bottom half of the bracket with the winner of Thursday’s game to play the Rollins Tars Saturday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m. In a pair of games this season, SLU is 0-2 against the Panthers, with their last contest being a 1-0 double-overtime defeat. Hannah Beard and Sara Macko were the goal scorers in those games and Pia Soesemann recorded the Lions only assist.

Saint Leo, led by head coach Ged O'Connor, looks to avenge a first round defeat in last year's NCAA South Region Tournament. This also marks the fourth-straight NCAA appearance for the Green & Gold.

In the top half of the bracket, No.1-ranked University of West Florida will await the winner of No. 5 Florida Southern and No. 4 North Alabama; both contests will take place from Pensacola, Fla. Seeding for the tournament was based on a team in-region record, with both the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds being granted first round byes, before playing host in their second round matchups.

A total of six teams are selected from each of the eight geographical regions, with the winner of each of region vying for chance at the National Championship. The NCAA National Championship Tournament is set to take place from Pepin Stadium at the University of Tampa the week of December 3rd.
