SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team added a few more trophies to their case on Thursday as Hannah Beard and Lauren Hudson were named to the 2008 Daktronics All-South Region women’s soccer team.

Beard, earning a first-team nod to accompany her Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year award was a prolific scorer for Saint Leo and led the league in a number of offensive categories. She ranked first in the SSC with 44 points and tied for first with 12 assists.  The Saint Leo junior is also in the top-10 in the nation in scoring (17th) and assists (12th).

A native of Liverpool, England, Beard also ranked second in the SSC with 16 goals and an average of 0.94 goals per game.  Earning the conference player of the week award in September, Beard is also a performer in the classroom as she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team as well.

Hudson, named to the second team, Hudson, had a tremendous year in goal for the Lions.  The four-year starter saw over 1815 minutes in goal and only allowed 13 goals in 20 games.  She holds nearly every Saint Leo goalkeeping record, including one she set this year.  The Odessa, Fla. native posted five-straight shutouts in 535 minutes and 10 clean sheets this season.

The Lions open NCAA South Region play on Friday as they face Sunshine State Conference foe the University of Tampa.  Saint Leo and UT will kick-off at 2:30 p.m. (CST) from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.  The first-round match will be carried live on the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast network.
