SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Lions women’s soccer player Lauren Hudson was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week; it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.
Hudson put on quite a show in goal for the Lions, as the senior from Odessa, Fla. posted a pair of shutouts, including a key SSC road win at Lynn. In the contest, Hudson made five saves to help lift the Lions to a 4-0 victory. Hudson continued her success in net last Saturday, posting six saves in a 3-0 regional win over Flagler. She has ten shutouts on the season, just one shy of the program record set during the 2007 campaign.
Earlier in the season, Hudson didn’t surrender a goal for over 535 minutes, spanning over seven matches, setting both personal and program records during the streak. She also had five consecutive clean-sheets during the run, surpassing the program record set by Hudson in 2007, with four.
Hudson joins Hannah Beard as the only other women’s soccer player to be named to SSC Player of the Week.
Seven Saint Leo student-athletes have been honored with the award during the fall season.
Hudson and the Lions now set their eyes to the upcoming showdown with Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday, October 29. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at University Field and will be broadcasted live on the Saint Leo Lions AudioCast Network.
