SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women’s soccer team (4-1) broke a team record that stood for exactly 15 days. The Lions scored 13 goals against the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes (1-4) on a hot and muggy Friday afternoon at University Field. One season ago, the Lions placed 11 goals on the Hurricanes in Americus, Ga.

The Lions were led by Junior Hannah Beard (Liverpool, England), who exploded for nine total points on the afternoon. The brilliant offensive performance didn’t just stop with Beard, as Dari Alcantara (Tampa, Fla.)and Pia Soesemann (Berlin, Germany) scored two goals apiece. Malloree Enoch (Fairview, Ore.), Sara Macko (Valrico, Fla.) and Stacey Rodwell (Southport, England) each added a goal and an assist. Lui Metallo (Tampa, Fla.) added her first goal of the season striking a ball into the right corner of the net wrapping up the Lions’ scoring on the day and breaking the goals scored in a game record for the second time this season.

The Lions wasted no time in the first in trying to secure a victory, as SLU scored six times in the half going into the locker room with the shutout intact. Beard’s first point of the day was a beautiful assist to Soesemann to open the scoring just seven minutes into the game. Soesemann struck again near the end of the half on a sharp pass from Rodwell. Chrissy Darwell (Cranston, R.I.) shut the door on the Hurricanes, as she scored her fourth goal of the season with less than three minutes to go in the half.

In the second half, Beard wasted no time scoring as she positioned her second goal of the afternoon in the back of the net to extend the Lions Lead just 38 seconds into the half. In the next six and a half minutes, Beard helped there Lions players find the net giving the Lions a ten goal advantage. Alcantara broke free twice from the Hurricanes ‘keeper planting two balls into the net late in the game.

The Lions outshot the Hurricanes 31-1 and played stout defense, rarely allowing a Georgia Southwestern charge to mount in their end.

The Lions head to Montevallo, Ala. this Sunday, September 14 to take on the Gulf South Opponent the Montevallo Flacons. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST. The game can heard live on the SaintLeoLions Audiocast Network.
