Saint Leo, Fla. (June 16, 2008) - Saint Leo University women's soccer player Ginger Davenport (Bradenton, Fla.) has been selected as a recipient of the NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award. The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award Committee selected recipients for the 2008-09 awards from a pool of 182 applications. The committee awarded 86 applicants from 63 different Division II institutions, and also selected 10 alternates.
The Division II Degree-Completion Award program provides financial assistance to deserving student-athletes with completion of a first baccalaureate degree.
Candidates are student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility and have received athletics financial aid. Recipients are selected on the basis of several factors, with emphasis on academic performance. Other factors considered are financial circumstances, athletics achievement, and involvement in campus and community activities.
Davenport was a four-year member of the Saint Leo women's soccer team. She is a double major in Criminal Justice and Social Work and has been on the Dean’s List throughout her academic career at Saint Leo while also serving as President of the Saint Leo Student Athlete Advisory Committee and other various groups on campus. Davenport was named All-Sunshine State Conference as a senior and also a Daktronics Second Team All-South Region selection in 2007.
