Thomasville, Ga. (September 28, 2007) – The Saint Leo University women’s soccer team (8-2, 3-1 SSC) stretched its winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 win over Thomas University (3-5-1) on Friday afternoon in Thomasville, Ga.

Evelina Viiri (Jr., Heby, Sweden) and Sara Macko (So., Valrico, Fla.) each scored a goal and added an assist, as all of the scoring in the match came in the second half.

The Lions held a 7-3 shot advantage in the first half, but were unable to break down the Thomas defense.  The breakthrough goal finally came in the 51st minute off a corner kick, as Macko delivered the cross and Viiri scored her fourth goal of the season.

Macko then matched Viiri with her fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute on assists from Kiki Day (Fr., Denver, Colo.) and Viiri.  However, the home side was quickly back into the match, as they scored in the 80th minute to make it a one-goal game.

The Lions iced the win in the 83rd minute, restoring their two-goal lead when Dari Alcantara (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) scored her third goal of the year and second in as many matches.

Saint Leo will remain in Georgia to face Georgia Southwestern State University on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
