Saint Leo, Fla. (September 10, 2007) – Saint Leo University sophomore defender Ana Davila (Valrico, Fla.) was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced on Monday.  The Lions’ central defender shared the weekly honor with Rollins freshman goalkeeper Stina Lykke Petersen.

Saint Leo (3-1) picked up its third straight win this past weekend, and second consecutive victory over a south region opponent, with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Montevallo.  Davila helped anchor a defense that allowed just five shots and limited Montevallo to one shot on target.  The SLU defense has allowed just two goals in the last three matches with Davila forming the last line of defense at sweeper.

Davila became the second consecutive Saint Leo women’s soccer player to be named SSC Defensive Player of the Week following teammate Kristen Preseault’s (So., Bradenton, Fla.) honor last week.  Saint Leo student-athletes have now won four SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2007-08 school year.

The Saint Leo women’s soccer team opens its Sunshine State Conference schedule this Wednesday with a trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to face No. 24 Nova Southeastern University at 6:00 p.m.
