Saint Leo, Fla. (October 23, 2006) – Saint Leo University women’s soccer player Lauren Hudson (So., Odessa, Fla.) was named Sunshine State Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. She shared this week’s honor with Lynn University defender Courtney O’Connell.
Hudson helped lift the 18th-ranked Lions to a pair of 1-0 shutouts over conference foes Florida Tech and Barry. Facing a total of 10 shots, the sophomore ‘keeper made three saves to post a 0.00 goals against average in the contests.
The shutouts added to Hudson’s single-season program record, as they were the ninth and 10th clean sheets of the campaign. The product of nearby Mitchell High School also established a new program record for shutouts in a career with the clean sheet against Tech, and added to it with Saturday’s effort against Barry. She now has 13 in her short career with the Lions.
Saint Leo student-athletes have now claimed a total of eight SSC Player of the Week awards in the 2006-07 school year. Hudson was the first to earn SSC Player of the Week accolades in the 2006-07 school year when she was the defensive honoree on August 28.
The Saint Leo women’s soccer team (13-2-1, 6-2 SSC) finished the 2006 regular season in second-place in the Sunshine State Conference. The team set program records for most wins (13) in a single season and for total victories in the SSC (6).
