Women's lacrosse stopped by #5 Florida Southern, 21-4

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team fell, 21-4, to No. 5 and reigning national champion Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon in their Sunshine State Conference opener at University Turf Stadium.

The Lions saw Katherine Larson score the lone first half goal, while Kelsey Burns, Sabrina Sanacore, and Leslie Ferguson all netted a score in the second half of action.

How it happened
1H | Florida Southern would score in the first 90 seconds of action, and their offense from there on would prove too much for the Lions. The Mocs scored nine-straight goals before Katherine Larson would get the Lions on the board with a slick move around the cage. However, FSC would tack on two more before the close of the half to make it 11-1. Both teams were perfect on their clear attempts, Saint Leo going 8-8, while FSC went 12-12. The Mocs also won 10 draw control to the Lions' three, giving them the advantage in possession. Florida Southern took 19 first half shots. | FSC 11-1

2H | In the second period of action, the Mocs would score the first eight goals, before Kelsey Burns would find the back of the cage. Burns then found Sabrina Sanacore to make it two straight for the Lions. FSC tacked on two more, but in the final seconds of the game, Leslie Ferguson sunk a free position shot to give the game its' final score. The Mocs again won 10 draws to just three by Saint Leo. Saint Leo won the ground ball game in the second, grabbing seven to FSC's five. | FSC 21-4
