Joanna Chadwick, Ashlea Mann and Alix Murray to Join the Lions
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Women's Lacrosse Coach Lesley Graham has announced the addition of a trio of midfielders that will be donning the Saint Leo uniform during the 2011-12 inaugural season. This trio of Joanna Chadwick, Alix Murray and Ashlea Mann all hail from the sunshine state.
Continuing her relentless pursuit in building the school's first women's lacrosse team, and after the announcement of the program in October, Graham hit the recruiting trail, announcing her group of attackers earlier this summer. Out of the eight commitments, her midfielders all come to Saint Leo as Florida natives, one from Tampa, another from Orlando and the final one from Miami.
5-6 | Midfielder
Tampa Catholic High School | Wolfpack
Joanna Chadwick joins Saint Leo after helping push Tampa Catholic to a State Championship appearance during her senior season, one where she served as captain. Developing a pedigree for winning, Chadwick and the Crusaders posted a perfect regular season record (13-0) her senior year and claimed Region and District Championships.
Earning defensive MVP honors, she started her high school lacrosse career on the right foot with a Rookie of the Year honor. Participating in both Honors and AP classes at TC, the Tampa native was also named an All-American Scholar, solidifying her dual threats on the field and in the classroom.
Coach Graham's Thoughts – "Joanna will bring experience, tenacity and intelligence to the building of Saint Leo lacrosse. A local standout, both in the classroom and on the field, I am looking forward to expanding her talent at the collegiate level."
5-8 | Midfielder
South Fork High School | Barefoot Lacrosse
Ashlea Mann comes to Saint Leo from a developing program in South Florida. During her senior season she averaged three goals and three assists a game, totaling 32 tallies during the year. In the only two years of the program's existence, she served as team captain and was a starter.
Playing for a more-established club lacrosse team, Mann's numbers remained largely unchanged as she helped Barefoot Lacrosse to a runner-up finish at the annual Heat Wave Tournament. A multi-sport athlete, she was also a varsity member of her high school's girls soccer program.
Coach Graham's Thoughts – "Ashlea's size and athleticism is a definite plus at the collegiate level. I am looking to her to dominate from the draw circle to both the offensive and defensive ends. Her experiences with a young program will be instrumental in developing the team spirit at Saint Leo."
5-7 | Midfielder
Boone High School | RC Elite
Alix Murray remains close to home after traveling to the Saint Leo campus from Orlando where she was a member a district-finalist Boone High School team. Scoring 40 goals during 2010-11, she also notched 17 assists and 44 groundballs from her midfield spot.
A laundry list of awards, Murray was named the program's MVP in 2011 after starting her career as the Rookie of the Year at Boone. She was also a member of the Metro Team in 2011.
Coach Graham's Thoughts – "Alix has a great sense of the field, with both an offensive vision for play making and a defensive insight to shutting down attacks. I am looking for her consistency on the field to set the tempo of play."
Graham continued, "I am excited to showcase Florida talent at the collegiate level with the triple threat of Joanna, Ashlea and Alix."
All three, in addition to the group announced in June, will begin their Saint Leo career's when classes begin in late August.
