Women’s golf second after round one at Island Getaway

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Saint Leo women's golf carded a 300 (+16) in its opening round and finished the day second on the team leaderboard at the University of Illinois-Springfield's Island Getaway, which began play on Monday at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort's Ocean Course.

The Lions trail the leader, Tarleton State (Texas), by 12 strokes. The TexAnns placed four golfers among the top nine and fired a four-over 288 on Monday. Saint Leo is four strokes ahead of third-place St. Edward's University with a 304 (+20).

Junior Amanda Jakobsson leads all Saint Leo golfers on the individual leaderboard after firing a one-over 72 on the par 71, 6083-yard Ocean Course.

Juniors Vilde Eriksen and Margine Arguello are tied for 10th on the leaderboard with a four-over 75, while senior Marie Coors is alone in 12th place with a five-over 76.

Freshman Izzy Lawrence is tied for 26th overall after shooting an 83 (+12) in Monday's round.

Tarleton State's Kerbey Kipp leads the field with a one-under 70, while four golfers – Casey Wild and Breann Smith from Tarleton State, Kate Hill from Anderson College, and Johany Rivera from St. Edward's – are tied for second place with a one-over 72.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a second round of 18 holes.
