Coors tabbed as SSC Women’s Golfer of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's golfer Marie Coors' third-place finish at the UNC Pembroke "Battle at Old South" propelled the senior to Sunshine State Conference Women's Golfer of the Week honors, when weekly conference awards were unveiled Monday.

The SSC Women's Golfer of the Week honor is the first for Coors in an already storied career at Saint Leo. The last Saint Leo women's golfer to win the award was Clare Connolly on April 7, 2014.

Coors carded a 143 (-1) over 36 holes at the par 72, 5874-yard Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C., helping guide the Lions to the "Battle at Old South" team championship. She fired a four-under 68 in Saturday's first round to take a one-stroke lead, and shot a three-over 75 in Sunday's second round.

The tournament win marked the third year-in-a-row that Saint Leo has won a regular season tournament at the Old South Golf Links; the Lions previously won the event in 2014 and 2015 when it was hosted by Lander University.

Saint Leo women's golf returns to action on October 17-18 when the Lions host the 2016 Saint Leo Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club's North Course.
