Women’s golf second after day one at UIndy Fall Invite

CARMEL, Ind. – Saint Leo women's golf placed three golfers among the top 20 to finish the day in second place out of 17 teams, after Monday's first round of the UIndy Fall Invitational at the Prairie View Golf Club.

Senior Marie Coors paced the Lions' top-20 trio with an even-par 72 on the 6215-yard Prairie View course, and was among a group of four golfers tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Vilde Eriksen was two shots back with a two-over 74, and was tied for 11th with four other competitors. Junior Margine Arguello fired a three-over 75 in the first round, and was in a five-way tie for 16th overall.

Senior Sabrina Rumbaugh was further back in the field with a five-over 77, and was tied for 28th. Junior Amanda Jakobsson carded a six-over 78 in Monday's round, and was in an eight-way tie for 34th on the leaderboard.

As a team, Saint Leo finished the day in second place on the team leaderboard with a 298 (+10), just eighth strokes off the pace set by the first place squad from the University of Indianapolis. UIndy finished the first day at its own tournament with a two-over 290. Tarleton State and Dallas Baptist were tied for third just two strokes behind Saint Leo at 300 (+12), while Grand Valley State was fifth with a 301 (+13).

The UIndy Fall Invitational features six teams that were ranked among the GolfStat Top 25 at the end of the 2015-16 season: No. 8 Tarleton State, No. 10 Univ. of Indianapolis, No. 11 Dallas Baptist, No. 12 Grand Valley State, No. 16 St. Mary's University (Texas), and No. 21 Augustana University (S.D.).

The 36-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Prairie View Golf Club with a shotgun start beginning at 8:45 a.m. ET.
