Women’s golf opens fall at UIndy Invitational

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's golf will begin its pursuit of a second straight trip to the national championship when it opens the 2016-17 this morning at the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational.

The 36-hole tournament opens Monday morning at the par 72, 6215-yard Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.  The course is the only Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed course in the state of Indiana, and has hosted numerous amateur championships, as well as the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship.

Saint Leo's lineup for the UIndy Fall Invitational will be identical to the five who headed to Denver last May for the NCAA championship.

Senior Marie Coors, who took All-America honors last season as a junior, will lead the group. She averaged 75.03 strokes over 30 rounds last season, cutting more than a full stroke off the 76.44 she posted in 2014-15 as a sophomore.

Fellow senior Sabrina Rumbaugh, and juniors Vilde Eriksen, Amanda Jakobsson, and Margine Arguello round out the five Lions headed to Prairie View.

Rumbaugh averaged 78.71 strokes over 24 rounds last spring, after joining the team following the Christmas break. Eriksen, an Honorable Mention All-America selection in 2015-16, finished the season with a 76.64 stroke average over 33 rounds. Jakobsson, who also earned Honorable Mention All-America honors and was tabbed for the All-Sunshine State Conference teams at the end of last season, finished 2015-16 with a 76.15 stroke average over 33 rounds.

Arguello suddenly found herself as the team's no. 5 golfer at the NCAA South Region Championship and at the NCAA Championship in Denver last season, and performed well under the pressure. She shot a one-over 73 on day two and a two-over 74 on day four at the national championship, helping her finish the 2015-16 season with a 78.64 stroke average.
