Women’s golf places three on WGCA All-American Scholars team

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Three members of the Saint Leo women's golf team have been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars team, announced Tuesday.

Senior Kellianne May, junior Marie Coors, and sophomore Amanda Jakobsson were all named to the squad, after recording a 3.50-or-better cumulative GPA at the end of the 2015-16 academic year.

"It's an honor for these young ladies to receive this award. It is a testament to their commitment in the classroom and on the golf course," said Tommy Baker, Saint Leo's head women's golf coach.

Coors is a three-time WGCA All-America Scholar selection, after earning the honor in each of the past two seasons. May and Jakobsson are both first-time recipients of the accolade.

May completed the 2015-16 season with an 81.23 stroke average over 17 rounds. She showed considerable improvement in the spring 2016 semester, lowering her stroke average to 80.00 over 12 rounds in the latter half of the season.

Coors, who earned WGCA Second Team All-America and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-America honors earlier this summer, took medalist honors at the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship. Coors guided the Lions to a tie for fourth place at the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship, and finished the season with a 75.03 stroke average over 30 rounds.

Jakobsson, a 2016 WGCA Honorable Mention All-America and Honorable Mention All-Sunshine State Conference selection, was second on the team with a 76.15 stroke average over 33 rounds. She took medalist honors at the Lander University Lady Bearcat Invitational in the fall, after carding a seven-under 137 while tying a program record with a 66 in the opening round.
