Coors and Jakobsson pacing the field at SSC Championship

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Junior Marie Coors and sophomore Amanda Jakobsson share the top spot on the individual leaderboard following day one at the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne.

On the team leaderboard, Saint Leo finished the first 18 holes tied for second place with Florida Southern. Both the Lions and the Mocs carded a +26 (314) in the first round, just three strokes behind tournament leader Florida Tech (+23, 311).

Jakobsson and Coors each fired a four-over 76 on the par 72, 5907-yard Crandon course, as did Florida Tech's Paola Ortiz and Florida Southern's Abbey Williams to create a four-way tie for first place.

The two Saint Leo golfers each got to 76 in very different ways.

Starting on no. 10, Coors birdied two holes on the back nine and two more on the front nine to offset six bogeys and a double bogey. Her four birdies was second-most during the round, and just one behind the five carded by Rollins' Annie Dulman. Two were on par 5 holes no. 4 and 18, helping Coors average a tournament-leading 4.80 on Crandon's five par-5 holes.

Jakobsson, meanwhile, went out and shot par on 13 of the 18 holes, registering her only birdie of the day on the par 5 hole no. 18. Her 13 pars was tied for the most in the opening round.

Sophomore Vilde Eriksen finished her first round among the top 10, finishing the day tied for seventh after firing a six-over 78. Her lone birdie of the round came on 18.

Junior Sabrina Rumbaugh started off the tournament with a 10 on hole no. 10, but turned things around as the afternoon wore on. Rumbaugh posted a birdie on no. 11, and double-bogeyed no. 12, but then managed to shoot par on nine of the remaining 15 holes on her way to a 12-over 84 and 30th place on the leaderboard.

Freshman Mao Young carded a 19-over 91 to finish the round tied for 39th overall. Young was just six-over through the first nine holes after teeing off on no. 10, but went 13-over on the front nine.
