Connolly named to WGCA All-South Region squad

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University senior Clare Connolly was named to the 2015 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II All-South Region team, which was released Friday.

The All-South Region recognition is the first for Connolly, who made her fourth NCAA regional appearance earlier this month.

"This is an appropriate recognition for Clare and all that she has accomplished in her career," said Saint Leo Head Women's Golf Coach Tommy Baker. "She has competed at a high level throughout her four years at Saint Leo, and it's nice to see her acknowledged as one of the top women's collegiate golfers in the South."

Connolly completed the 2014-15 season tied for seventh at the NCAA South Super Regional, May 3-5 at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. She shot a 221 over the three-day event with rounds of 73, 73, and 75, to lead the Lions to a fifth-place finish out of 10 teams in the regional.

Individually, Connolly fell to Barry's Nicole Ferre in a playoff hole at the NCAA regional to determine the final individual qualifier for the NCAA Division II National Championship.

For the season, Connolly averaged 76.81 strokes over 27 rounds, with a season low round of 71. She recorded four top 20 individual finishes, led by her finish at the NCAA regional.

Connolly was one of nine Sunshine State Conference golfers named to the WGCA All-South Region team.
