Women’s golf wins Lander Lady Bearcat Invitational

BLUFFTON, S.C. – Saint Leo University women's golf fired a second day total of 297 to clinch the team title at the Lander University Lady Bearcat Invitational, which concluded Sunday at the Old South Golf Links.

Saint Leo was one of only two teams to post team rounds below 300 on Sunday, and posted a two-day total of 593 to win the tournament.

The Lions beat out second place Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) by one stroke, and finished five strokes ahead of Flagler College and Limestone College who were tied for third. Armstrong State was fifth with a score of 600 over the two-day event.

Individually, senior Clare Connolly fired the day's low round for the Lions. Connolly carded a one-over 73, shaving seven strokes off her Saturday score on the par 72, 5,901-yard Old South course.

Sophomore Marie Coors and junior Kellianne May each shot a two-over 74, both shaving one stroke off their Saturday rounds of 75. Each posted a two-day total of 149 to pace the Lions in the tournament, and were tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard. Senior Lauren Petty fired a 76 to finish the tournament with a 150, and was tied for 12th overall.

Freshman Vilde Eriksen fired a 79 on Sunday and was tied for 15th with a 151. Connolly's two-day score was 153, and she was tied for 25th on the leaderboard out of 85 competitors. Leah Daigle competed as an individual and finished with a two-day total of 162, tied for 56th.

SCAD's Alazne Urizar was the tournament medalist with a four-under 140 over the two days, after carding a 72 on Sunday. She beat out Limestone's Brittany LaPadula by one stroke. Armstrong State's Patricia Schmidt was third with a two-over 146 for the tournament.

Saint Leo has seven days to prepare for its next tournament, the Nova Southeastern Guy Harvey Invitational on October 6-7 in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
