Women's Golf Places 5th in First Round of Flagler Fall Slam
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – After the first round of the Flagler Fall Slam tournament, the Saint Leo women's golf team stands in fifth place, Monday afternoon from the Marsh Creek Country Club. The Lions currently trail Barry, Flagler, Armstrong, and Seminole State with a team score of 314.
Junior Clare Connolly leads the effort for the Lions, sitting at tied for fourth among the 80-woman field. Her score of two-over-74 on the 5,778 yard course marks her best first round score this season.
Freshman Marie Coors trails Connolly by one stroke, shooting just a 75 to stand tied for 6th place.
Five strokes behind Coors is senior Lauren Shuford, whose 8-over-80 puts her tied for 30th, while a 13-over has junior Lauren Petty sitting tied for 49th overall. Rounding out the group is senior Heather Petronis, who sits in 77th place.
Barry University currently sits atop the leaderboard, posting a 289, while the Bucs' Maria Fiorio and Armstrong's Kiley Mettler lead all individual golfers with a tie score of one-under par.
The Lions will look to continue their great play tomorrow when they finish the second and final round of the tournament.
