LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The No.9-ranked Saint Leo women's golf team registered a final round 26-over 310 on the final day of the Grand Canyon Women's Invitational to finish seventh overall. The Lions concluded the two day, two round invite in a big way, climbing four spots from their first round finish at the par-71, 5822-Yard, Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Competing against some of the nation's toughest competition, the Lions finished in the top half of the 18 team field.
Clare Connolly rebounded 16 strokes to post an even par-72 on the final day, climbing from 74th to 30th overall in the standings (88-72—160). Heather Petronis led the team after both rounds, carding a second round seven-over 79 and posting a two round total of 14-over 156 to finish 17th (77-79—156).
Senior Goeun Lee bounced back from a 12-over 83 first round to fire a six-over 78, concluding the invite in a tie for 37th (83-78—161).
Laura Huertas secured a two round total of 21-over 163 (81-82—163), while Ragna Olafsdottir improved five strokes to finish with a 25-over 167 (86-81—167).
Leading the individual results was host institution Grand Canyon's Ashley Mooney, who carded a six-over 148 after two rounds. Tarleton State's Sharon Lau and Sonoma State's Spencer Heller finished second and third, respectively, as they brought in scores of seven-over 149, and eight-over 150. Grand Canyon took home the overall first place finish, bringing in a team total of 36-over 604.
The Saint Leo women's golf team returns to action on April 16, for the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. For more on the nationally-ranked women's golf program, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
