No.9 Women’s Golf Sits 11th After Opening Round of Grand Canyon Invite

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The No.9-ranked Saint Leo women's golf team registered an opening round 43-over 327 en route to an 11th-place standing after day one action from the par-71, 5822-Yard, Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

Competing against some of the nation's toughest competition, only nine shots separate the Lions from the top four teams.

The Lions were led by Heather Petronis as she stands in a tie for fifth-place after carding a first round six-over 77. Meanwhile, Laura Huertas fired a 10-over 81 to conclude play in a tie for 34th.

Senior Goeun Lee posted a 12-over 83, while Ragna Olafsdottir and Clare Connolly secured scores of 86 and 88, respectively.

Overall, Tarleton State's Sharon Lau leads all individuals after firing a one-over 72. However, host school Grand Canyon leads the 18-team field as they collected a score of 22-over 306.

Saint Leo will conclude the two-day, two-round tournament on Tuesday, April 3.
