Ninth-Ranked Lions Claim Second Place Finish at Marjorie Whitney Invitational
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The No. 9 Saint Leo women's golf team concluded the final day of the Marjorie Whitney Invitational with a second place finish, carding a team score of 61-over 637 (320-317—637) at the par-72, 5,831 TPC Sawgrass course in Ponte Vedra, Fla., Tuesday afternoon.
Barry University (320-310—630) claimed the team title as they shot a second round 22-over 310 to bring their final day total to 54-over 630.
Claiming the individual medalist honor was Elia Folch Sola from Seminole State, who fired a three-over 75 on day two for a five-over 149 tournament-leading total.
Heather Petronis (82-76—158) posted a second day team best of four-over 76, improving six strokes from Monday's first round to finish in a tie for seventh.
Goeun Lee (73-80—153) held on to the overall team lead, compiling a nine-over 153 to finish fourth overall. Clare Connolly wrapped up day two with a one-stroke improvement from her first outing, finishing with a 19-over 163 and concluding the tournament 14th overall.
Laura Huertas (81-84—165), playing as an individual, finished in a three-way tie at 16th, followed by Tricia Maloney, whose 22-over 166 (83-83—166) placed her fourth on the Lions' roster.
In total, the Lions collected 13 birdies, led by Lee with six.
