SAINT LEO, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the Saint Leo women's golf team has earned a ninth-place nod on the Golf World/NCGA Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced Thursday, September 1.
The Lions also mark a new best as they receive their first ever preseason top-ten ranking, having earned top-25 slots the previous two seasons.
The Green and Gold enters into their 2011-12 season riding the momentum of a highly successful 2010-11 campaign that saw three players ranked in the Top-70 for the first time in program history. The Lions finished fifth in the Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships for the second consecutive season, and earned a bid to the NCAA South Region Tournament for the second straight year where they finished sixth.
The Sunshine State Conference claims four of the top-ten slots on this year's poll, with Florida Southern, reigning NCAA DII Champion Nova Southeastern, and Rollins picking up the first through third, respectively. Lynn University completes the group of institutions representing the SSC on the poll, coming in at No. 24 in a tie with Dallas Baptist.
The women's golf team tees off its fall season on Monday, September 26, when they participate in the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. For the latest news, updates and information on the women's golf team, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
